Just like in the fable of the Three Little Pigs, there are different types of dance instructors building their teaching careers out of different materials.
House of Straws
Some dance instructors, like the little pig who built his house out of straw, focus more on building a social media following than on investing in their education and training. They may have a large following, but without a strong foundation of knowledge and skills, their success will be short-lived.
House of Sticks
Others, like the little pig who built his house out of sticks, may have some education and training but not enough to provide high-quality instruction. They may charge low prices to attract students or do favors for event promoters in exchange for exposure. But just like the little pig’s house made of sticks, their foundation is weak and susceptible to collapse.
House of Bricks
In contrast, dance instructors who invest in their education and skills are like the little pig who built his house out of bricks. They have a strong foundation that allows them to provide high-quality instruction and charge a fair price for their services. They may not have the largest social media following or do favors for event promoters, but they have the knowledge and skills necessary to build a successful teaching career in the dance industry.

A Word of Advise
So, if you’re a new dance instructor, it’s important to ask yourself what kind of house you want to build. Do you want a weak foundation built on low prices, superficial knowledge, or a large social media following? Or do you want a strong foundation built on education and training? The choice is yours, and it will ultimately determine your success in the dance industry, just like it did for the Three Little Pigs.
